“you can take everything, but not my weekend”
The slogan of a famous watch company’s advertising campaign can be well adapted to Italians’ holiday practices. In times of economic pressures – like these we have been through – the word holiday is certainly one of those that most rarely appear in people’s talks. Nonetheless, a great number of holidaymakers have not definitively given up their hopes for some pleasant time away from home. They are doing this by targeting options that may be convenient in both terms of cost and distance.
Two recent studies conducted by www.bed-and-breakfast.it attest to a growing tendency of people toward shorter but more frequent holidays, mainly concentrated on weekends, that is toward options that reduce costs as they lessen the stress accumulated during the week. The studies also reveal that 78% of Italian holidaymakers choose their own country as a weekend travel destination. Finally, most of them consider the Internet fundamental for their travel planning and the best resource to find a tailor made holiday.
Weekenders of the third Millennium seem to be growingly appealed to the intimate and informal atmosphere that a B&B can offer. Evidence for the success of the B&B in Italy is first reflected by the growing number of B&Bs on the national territory – they were about 20.000 at the end of 2008. The booking figures, almost trebled in the course of the last three years, do also confirm this positive trend. Besides, B&B programmes are now regularly featured in tour operator brochures worldwide along with hotels, holiday resorts and other mainstream lodging organizations.
The motives for the succes of B&Bs can be easily summarized: a general, constant improvement in quality and reliability, with almost no impact on prices. Differentiation also is a major factor and a distinctive mark of the B&B philosophy. A vast range of options are given as you browse www.bed-and-breakfast.it. You can make a suitable choice according to precise criteria or B&B characteristics: charm and design, historic residence, located in the town centre or in a metropolitan area, with garden, etc.
On 6 and 7 March 2010, Italian B&Bs will halve the price of overnight stays. On that weekend the fourth B&B Day is held. The event, now almost become a national tradition, is organized by www.bed-and-breakfast.it, the most important website for the Bed & Breakfast industry in Italy. The initiative, entitled “Tutti Pazzi per il Weekend”, features thousands of B&Bs and similar organizations across Italy and will allow customers booking a minimum of two nights to get one night for free. Its immediate proximity to International Women’s Day, celebrated on 8 March, is – we believe – an additional reason to take advantage of the offer. Thousands of B&Bs across Italy are ready to welcome you.
